Fall Protection

Kennedy Wire Rope & Sling Company is recognized as one of the largest distributors and repair facilities for DBI/SALA and Protecta fall protection equipment in Texas. We stock large volumes of fall protection products at all 3 of our facilities to ensure prompt delivery to our customers worldwide.

Anchorage

Anchors are the securing point of attachment for the fall arrest system, and must meet the ability to withstand the allowable arresting forces in the event of a fall. Anchors are available in many different varieties which include web tie-off straps, cable chokers, Roof anchors and Weld on D-ring plates. These are just a few commonly stocked at our fall protection systems facilities.

Body Support

In the event of a fall, full-body harnesses are worn to allow the forces placed upon the body to be distributed over the upper thighs, pelvis, chest, and shoulders. Fall Protection Harnesses are available in different types, with various features and d-rings, depending on their intended use. Some examples include: Work Positioning (designed with d-rings on the hips) Ladder Climbing (Lifting d-rings, or a d-ring on the chest strap) Descent Control (Chest d-ring) Regardless of the fall arrest system application, we've got you covered!

Connectors

A connector, such as a shock-absorbing lanyard or a self-retracting lifeline, is a device that links the user's full body harness to an anchor. When used with a fall restraint system the connector must be short enough so that the worker cannot reach a fall hazard. We commonly stock over 30 different styles of lanyards and a wide assortment of self-retracting lifelines ranging in lengths up to 175 feet.

Required Heights for Fall Protection (OSHA Standards)

  • 4 feet — General workplaces

  • 5 feet — Shipbuilding/shipyards

  • 6 feet — Construction

  • 8 feet — Longshoring

Harness Options
Different tasks require different harness configurations to keep workers secure and comfortable:

  • Work-positioning Harness: Features D-rings on the hips for stability and support.

  • Ladder-climbing Harness: Equipped with D-rings on the chest strap or lifting D-rings for vertical mobility.

  • Descent-control Harness: Includes a chest D-ring for controlled lowering applications.

Inspection & Maintenance

Proper training and thorough inspections are critical to the safe use of fall protection equipment.

  • Webbing: Bend into a “U” shape to check for cuts, fraying, or excessive wear.

  • D-Rings: Confirm free movement and inspect for cracks, deformation, or corrosion.

  • Back Pads: Look for cracks, sharp edges, or rough spots.

  • Buckles & Grommets: Verify that buckles are damage-free and all grommets are intact.

  • Straps & Components: Examine for stretching, breaks, or dirt buildup in mechanisms.

Inspections should occur:

    • Daily: A quick 5-minute check before each use.

    • Every 6 Months: A Competent Person inspection, as required by OSHA.

Lifespan & Replacement

Fall protection harnesses do not carry a set expiration date. Instead, their service life depends on wear, usage, and exposure. With proper storage and care, a harness can last up to five years. However, if a harness has been involved in a fall, it must be replaced immediately. Energy-absorbing lanyards and lifelines are also not reusable after a fall.
